Transmission Planning & Renewable Integration

Built and validated the IEEE 39-bus New England system in PSS®E, integrated a 250 MW renewable plant, automated contingency and P-Q studies in Python, and extended the study toward dynamic performance and voltage/VAr support.

Modeled a droop-based grid-forming three-phase voltage-source inverter in PSCAD and compared grid-following and grid-forming behavior under weak-grid and disturbance conditions.

Scalable Step-Up DC-DC Converter

Designed a scalable series-parallel switched-inductor high-gain converter, a 1 kW PCB for approximately 40–400 V conversion, and a closed-loop voltage controller based on small-signal analysis.

Control of Multiphase Induction Machines

Developed and experimentally evaluated RFOC, direct torque control, and model-predictive flux control for a 1.4 kW five-phase induction-machine platform, including reduced-CMV and harmonic-suppression strategies.

Reconfiguration to a Five-Phase Machine

Reconstructed the original machine geometry in Ansys Motor-CAD, designed a five-phase fractional-slot winding, optimized conductor sharing and slot fill, and rewound the stator for multiphase-drive experiments.

Fault Diagnosis of Multiphase Electrical Drives Using Machine Learning

Developed neural-network models to detect and localize open-switch and open-phase faults in five-phase induction drives using simulation data and experimental validation on a laboratory prototype.

Compared MLP, RNN, LSTM, LSTM-RNN and bidirectional LSTM architectures for day-ahead GHI forecasting using multi-year NREL meteorological and irradiance time-series data.

Bifacial PV Tilt-Angle Optimization

Formulated a constrained COBYLA optimization for bifacial PV tilt and azimuth using meteorological data and irradiance models, then compared energy and economic performance in PVSyst.

Paired fisheye sky images with one-minute PV output measurements and compared VGG16, transfer learning, ResNet and custom CNN regressors for solar-power estimation under sunny and cloudy conditions.

Dynamic Modeling of Five-Phase Induction Machine

Derived the five-phase dq/dqxy transformation, stator and rotor voltage/flux equations, and implemented the resulting model in MATLAB/Simulink for fault simulation and dataset generation.

State Feedback Control of a Grid-Connected Inverter

Derived a state-space model of an LCL-filtered grid-connected voltage-source inverter, checked controllability and observability, and designed full-state feedback plus an observer for current tracking and resonance damping.

Boost Converter Small-Signal Control

Used state-space averaging and linearization to derive the small-signal boost-converter model, tuned a PI controller in MATLAB Control System Designer, and tested regulation over wide input-voltage and load variations.
